Barratt London has partnered with students from Kingsley Academy to help transform the hoarding at the developer’s High Street Quarter scheme in Hounslow.
The housebuilder set up the opportunity with the local school, in conjunction with the Children Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) and Considerate Constructor Scheme, to highlight the importance of safety in helping reduce the number of children and young people killed, disabled or seriously injured in accidents. As part of the course, the students were invited to suggest themes for the hoarding and they voted for ‘doors’, as a symbol of opportunity, welcome and growth.
Danny Fareden, Project Director, Barratt London, said: “It is great to get the opportunity to speak to young people about site safety but also pathways into construction, design and project management. The students were enthusiastic and receptive to what we had to say, and their selection of the ‘door’ theme was reflective of our conversations.”
Areta Gracias, student at Kingsley Academy, adds: “Everyone worked really hard to make this project a success and we all had a key role to play. Some students were appointed to undercoat the wood, while others painted their choice of door according to the colours of Kingsley Academy. We stayed for after-school sessions to complete the doors, plants and the wording: ‘Education opening doors to opportunities’ and ‘Kingsley Academy’, as well as the logo. This project was great for team building and helped to give us all confidence, as we all relied on each other, from the preparation that was essential to the outcome, to the detailed work showing tone and depth. We all agree that we feel very proud to see our art in public, it feels so good.”
