The increasing importance placed on addressing climate change and water scarcity within the UK construction industry has been evidenced recently by consultations with the UK government on water labelling, changes to Part G of the building regulations, and challenges related to recent water shortages.
Lecico Bathrooms and Propelair are playing a lead role in addressing these challenges.
Did you know that 90% of total water usage in buildings is from washrooms, and in the washroom almost half of all water used is by toilets.
The chart below highlights that toilets currently use more drinkable water than any other usage in commercial buildings. Saving water from reduced flush toilets has a major impact on overall water usage.
Water Saving Product Innovation
The Propelair water-saving toilet is engineered specifically for commercial, public, and heavy footfall premises which are areas that can contribute the greatest savings from more efficient use of water.
The innovative patented product design uses a flush sensor which then circulates a small amount of water to wash the pan followed by a sealed air blast from a unique patented air pump. The air releases contents giving a powerful and reliable flush using only 1.5litres of water.
Propelair toilets are the highest performers under BREEAM’s water efficiency guidelines and use 75% to 84% less water than many toilets in use in the UK (based on flush volumes of 6-9 litres).
Propelair saves money, reduces water processing (thereby saving carbon), is quick to refill and is more hygienic than other toilets as it reduces aerosolised germs.
Water Savings Achieved
The proven technology has been adopted by over 200 customers, and over 4,600 units are now installed across a wide range of commercial buildings. Current Propelair customers save about one billion litres of water per year and save ~ 1,000,000 kgs of CO2 per year.
