Spitfire Homes launches free ‘Get Fit at Fairmont’ fitness classes at local development

A Cheltenham resident – who lives at Fairmont in Bishop’s Cleeve – has partnered with Spitfire Homes to offer a free, six-week fitness class schedule to help local people boost their mental and physical health.

40 year-old Ed Kerry who owns local independent gym GL52 Fitness, is starting the sessions on Tuesday 4th June to help neighbours at the development and members of the local community realise the benefits of exercise in improving mental health.

The launch comes as part of Mental Health Awareness Week 2024, taking place from 13 to 19 May, with the theme of “Movement: Moving more for our mental health”. Physical activity has been shown to have a positive impact on our mood and studies show that there is approximately a 20% to 30% lower risk of depression and dementia for adults participating in daily physical activity.

The fitness classes are being funded by Spitfire Homes, furthering its commitment to supporting the local area and giving back to the communities where it operates. The weekly classes will take place on the outside green space at Fairmont and have been designed to be accessible for all levels of fitness.

Ben Leather, Managing Director at Spitfire Homes, said:

“Spitfire has an important role to play in supporting and sustaining communities beyond bricks and mortar. We believe our projects and investments can be used as a force for good and these fitness classes at Fairmont are another example of our commitment to building relationships with grassroots organisations and local projects to leave a lasting positive impact on the areas where we operate.”

The homebuilder is already contributing more than £7 million to the Bishop’s Cleeve community by making positive contributions to local facilities including improvements to education, sports facilities and public transport.

Ed, who lives in a four-bedroom home at Fairmont in Bishop’s Cleeve, can’t wait to run the classes:

“I’m extremely proud to be partnering with Spitfire and was excited when they approached me about this opportunity.. Not only do I love their homes, but I also admire their values and commitment to the local community, and their idea of funding fitness classes for residents epitomises what they’re about.

“I launched my gym in 2021 and I’m thrilled to have become part of the Bishop’s Cleeve community. At GL52, we provide a more personalised experience compared to other gyms, so these fitness classes align perfectly with our ethos. I’ve already spoken to a few of my members at the gym who also live at Fairmont and they said they would be interested in coming along, so I’m expecting to have a good attendance at the classes, especially with the weather warming up.”

The first fitness class will take place at 6:00pm at Fairmont, Bishop’s Cleeve on Tuesday 4th June 2024. Participants must register using GL52 Fitness’ online registration form which can be found here.
