Airport passengers can now access the new Terminal E at Tampa International Airport by a four-car passenger transfer system and includes 14 gates, primarily serving Delta Air Lines. The lower Apron Level provides areas for maintenance, airline offices and operations, food service support, outbound baggage sorting, tug circulation drives, mechanical and electrical rooms, a loading dock and a commuter aircraft lobby. The second level, Boarding Level, includes holding areas, rest rooms, concession areas, concourse circulation, shuttle lobbies and the security screening areas. The third level Mezzanine houses the Delta Crown Room with additional space for airline clubs and/or offices.
Together Skanska, HOK and Hillsborough County Aviation Authority (HCAA) created a level of cooperation and teaming that made this project very successful. The team developed a construction sequence that scheduled all underground work and utilities at the same time as the foundation package. In turn, they were able to make significant strategic decisions early in the project that facilitated the fast-track delivery of this award-winning design-build project.
